A "Franken" watch (short for Frankenstein watch) is a replica timepiece built with real, premium materials. Unlike standard replicas that use plated or simulated metals, a Franken watch uses the exact same materials as the original: 18k real gold, platinum, carbon fiber, genuine ceramic. This gives you the authentic weight, feel, and durability of a luxury timepiece.

The concept is simple: we take our highest-quality base replica and upgrade it with real materials that match the original watch specification. The case, bezel, bracelet, or other components can be crafted from the same precious metals and materials used in the genuine version. Some builds also incorporate genuine parts where available. The result is a watch that's as close to the real thing as possible in material, weight, and finish.

Why Choose a Franken Watch?

  • Real materials, real weight: 18k gold feels and weighs like 18k gold because it is. No plating, no hollow parts. The genuine material throughout.
  • Exact match to original specs: The case material matches the original model precisely, whether that's white gold, rose gold, platinum, carbon, or ceramic.
  • Built to last: Real precious metals and premium materials don't fade, chip, or wear off like plating does. Your watch stays looking new.
  • Fully custom: Every Franken build is tailored to your specifications. You choose the materials and level of upgrade based on your priorities and budget.

Materials We Work With

The key difference in a Franken build is the material. We use the exact same metals and materials as the original manufacturer. Here's what we can do:

  • 18k Gold (White, Rose, Yellow): Real 18k gold cases, bezels, and bracelets. Not gold plating. The same alloy, the same weight, the same feel as the original.
  • Platinum: For models originally made in platinum, we use real platinum for the case and components, delivering the correct heft and finish.
  • Carbon Fiber: Authentic carbon fiber cases and bezels for sport models that use this material, with the proper weave pattern and lightweight feel.
  • Genuine Ceramic: Real ceramic bezels with the correct hardness, scratch resistance, and color depth. Not painted or coated alternatives.
  • Sapphire Crystal: Genuine sapphire crystal with proper AR coating and cyclops magnification for clarity and durability.
  • Titanium: Real titanium cases and bracelets for models that use this ultra-light, hypoallergenic material.
  • Genuine Parts: Where available, we can also incorporate genuine manufacturer parts (dials, hands, crowns, movements, clasps) for the most authentic result possible.

The most challenging component to source is the movement. However, if we can find the genuine movement for your desired watch, we can build a truly exceptional piece for you.

Example Franken Builds

Here are some of the Franken watches we've built for our customers. Each one is crafted with real materials like 18k gold, platinum, carbon, and ceramic, tailored to the customer's exact specifications.

What exactly is a Franken watch?

A Franken watch is a replica timepiece built with real, premium materials like 18k gold, platinum, carbon fiber, or genuine ceramic instead of plated or simulated alternatives. The name comes from "Frankenstein" because it combines the best replica craftsmanship with authentic materials (and sometimes genuine parts) to create the closest possible result to the original.

Which materials can you work with?

We work with 18k gold (white, rose, and yellow), platinum, carbon fiber, titanium, genuine ceramic, and sapphire crystal. We also source genuine manufacturer parts (dials, hands, crowns, movements, clasps) when available. Contact us with your desired model and we'll let you know exactly what's possible.

How much does a Franken build cost?
Pricing depends on the model, the materials used, and the level of customization. A ceramic bezel or sapphire crystal upgrade is more affordable, while a full 18k gold case build will cost more. We provide a detailed quote after discussing your requirements.

How long does it take to build a Franken watch?
Build time depends on materials and part sourcing. Some materials are readily available, while rarer components may take weeks to source. Typical builds take 2 to 6 weeks from order confirmation. We'll give you an estimated timeline when you place your order and keep you updated throughout the process.
Can I choose which parts to upgrade?
Absolutely. Every Franken build is fully custom. You tell us which materials and parts matter most to you, and we build around your priorities and budget. Some customers start with a ceramic bezel or sapphire crystal, then come back later for a full precious metal case upgrade.
Do you send QC photos before shipping?
Yes. Before we ship any Franken build, we send you detailed QC photos and videos of the completed watch. You review and approve everything before we proceed with shipping. If something doesn't meet your expectations, we'll address it before sending.

Which models work best for Franken builds?
Rolex models (Submariner, GMT-Master, Daytona, Day-Date) are the most popular for Franken builds. Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Richard Mille are also very popular because of their use of precious metals, carbon, and ceramic in the originals. Contact us with your desired model and we'll advise on what's possible.
