Why the 3186 matters
On a genuine GMT-Master II you can jump the local hour hand forward or back in one-hour steps without stopping the movement or disturbing the minute hand. That is what the watch is for. A cloned 3186 reproduces it. Cheaper GMTs use a base movement where the 24-hour hand is driven but the jumping hour function is either absent or crude, so setting a second timezone means resetting the whole watch.
If you are buying a GMT for the complication rather than the look, the movement is the entire purchase.
Bezel colours and what to check
- Batman 126710BLNR: blue and black Cerachrom. The transition between the two colours should be a clean vertical line at 12 and 6 with no bleed. Colour bleed at the join is the most common fault.
- Pepsi 126710BLRO: red and blue. The hardest colour pair to fire in ceramic, and the one where cheap bezels look purple or brown rather than true red.
- Sprite 126720VTNR: green and black, left-hand crown layout. Check the crown is genuinely on the left and the date is at 9.
- Root Beer 126711CHNR: brown and black in two-tone.
On every one of these, the 24-hour hand tip should reach the bezel numerals precisely and the lume pip at 12 should sit centred in the triangle.
The Rolex GMT-Master II clone references we stock
Batman, Pepsi, Sprite and Root Beer on both Jubilee and Oyster bracelets, plus two-tone and full gold variants. $1,200 to $1,350 across the range. Bracelet choice changes the character of the watch more than most people expect: Jubilee softens it, Oyster keeps it a tool watch.
Before it ships
Each GMT spends 24 to 48 hours on a timegrapher, and we test the jumping hour function through a full 24-hour cycle by hand. We photograph the bezel colour join and the 24-hour hand alignment specifically, because those are the two things a description cannot convey and a photograph settles immediately.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a GMT-Master II super clone?
$1,200 to $1,350. The price is consistent across bezel colours because the movement is the cost, not the ceramic.
Which factory makes the best GMT replica?
Clean Factory, and it is not close. It is the only one with a true cloned 3186, which is the calibre that drives the independently jumping hour hand.
Does the second timezone function actually work?
On a Clean Factory build with the cloned 3186, yes, exactly as the genuine does. On cheaper GMTs the 24-hour hand turns but cannot be set independently.
Is the Batman or the Pepsi harder to make well?
The Pepsi. Firing true red and true blue into a single ceramic bezel is the hardest colour pair in the Rolex catalogue, which is why cheap Pepsi bezels look purple.
