What to check
- Dial embossing. The chequerboard pattern is stamped deep with rounded edges, not printed. Angle the photograph and it should throw shadow.
- The tropical strap. Genuine Patek composite strap is dense, matte, and moulded with the same pattern as the dial. Cheap versions are shiny silicone and feel light.
- Case proportions. The Aquanaut case is rounder and softer than a Nautilus. Replicas built on Nautilus tooling look too angular.
- Arabic numerals. Applied, luminous, and evenly spaced around the dial.

Before it ships
Each Aquanaut spends 24 to 48 hours on a timegrapher. We photograph the dial under raking light so the embossing depth is visible, and we photograph the strap close up because strap quality is the most common disappointment on this model.
