A gold dial surface changes the aperture legibility question on the Perpetual Calendar. The Tapisserie texture on a gold ground is warm and reflective, and the day, date, and month window print must hold contrast against it. Check those aperture windows first on a gold dial, because the reflective surface reduces print contrast under certain light. The moonphase disc and sub-dial borders read differently on this ground than on white or dark dials.

Where this build differs from the original
- Movement. A cloned movement built to the architecture of the original, not a genuine factory calibre. ZF Factory leads these, cloning the 3120 and 3126. Ask us which calibre is in the build currently in stock.
- Case metal. The genuine reference is 18k gold. This build is plated over steel. Solid metal builds exist and are priced accordingly.
- Water resistance. The genuine reference is rated to 20 metres. This build is not pressure tested. Treat it as splash resistant and keep it out of the pool.

4 stars… I’m a collector in Boston and I’ve handled the genuine Royal Oak enough to know when something is off. This one gets a lot right, especially the gold dial shift in different light and the overall feel out of the box, with solid packaging. The only nitpick is the bracelet took a minute to settle on wrist. Still worth a look if you want something close.
