The chocolate dial on the 5712 puts all four complications into a warm brown field. The hands read clearly against the dark ground. From across a room the complications recede: the watch reads as a brown-dialed piece. At arm’s length the asymmetric layout becomes visible. Chocolate absorbs more light than blue or silver, so the embossed texture is less visible here than on a lighter dial. The watch reveals its full layout only on close inspection.

I opened the box at my kitchen table in Portland and kept turning the watch under the lamp because the polished bevels caught every bit of light. On the wrist, it has that slim, easy feel I wanted for a daily piece, but the finishing is what really sold me. The edges are crisp, the transitions look clean, and the whole case has a depth that makes it feel much more expensive than it is. it just wears right, plain and simple. I’ve owned a few clones and this one is the first that made me stop comparing and just enjoy it. Next on my list is another Patek style piece for rotation.
