Could this pass for the real thing at a glance? In a few feet of distance, yes, and that is what struck me first. I have handled genuine Aquanauts before, and this one gets a lot right in the way it sits low and neat on the wrist. The thinness is probably the biggest win here. It does not feel bulky or overbuilt, so it slips under a cuff in a way I was not expecting at this price.
The hand finishing is better than I assumed it would be. The polished bevels catch light cleanly, the edges are crisp, and the overall case work has a good sense of care rather than looking machine-flat. The bracelet integrates well too, which helps the whole watch feel coherent instead of pieced together.
My only small gripe is that the bracelet could have a touch more refinement in the finishing transition under close inspection, but that is being picky. For someone who cares about wearing comfort and a convincing overall presentation, the value is strong.

Was it a good gift? Yes, it was received very well and looked far dearer than I paid. the finishing on the case and bracelet really stands out in person, especially the neat edges and polished touches around the bezel and links.
I have seen a few luxury pieces over the years, and this one has that clean, considered look without feeling flashy. It sits nicely and does not feel awkward on the wrist.
My only slight niggle is the presentation box was not quite as impressive as the watch itself. Still, for day-to-day wear, it is an easy one to reach for.
