The Explorer has one dial configuration: black field, applied 3, 6, and 9 numerals, and luminous markers. The smooth bezel carries no function and the case has no complication. The watch reads in the dark and at distance without adjustment. Those three numerals are the visual identity of this reference and they distinguish it from any other Rolex with a plain black dial. This is the cleanest, most readable dial in the sports range.

- Water resistance. The genuine reference is rated to 100 metres. This build is not pressure tested. Treat it as splash resistant and keep it out of the pool.
