The aperture windows at the top of the dial still require clear contrast, and dark gray reduces that contrast relative to the black-dial version. Rose gold is not specified by the name. Under warm light, dark gray can pick up warmth from the ambient source. Under cool light, it reads as near-black. A buyer who finds the black 5205 too severe and the white too bright will find dark gray the correct middle position.

Does it look like a thoughtful gift? Yes — very much so. The dark gray dial has real depth to it, with a finish that changes nicely as the light moves across it. It doesn’t look flat or painted on. the packaging was better than I expected, neat and presentable right out of the box.
My only small gripe is that I would have liked the outer box to feel a little more premium for the price. Still, the watch itself made a strong impression.
